Carving Tips

Follow these tips for safe and fun pumpkin carving...

Cut the Lid

Cut a key, or unique feature, at the back of the lid as a guide for replacing the lid.

When cutting the lid, angle the blade towards the center of the pumpkin. This creates a ledge for the lid to set on.

After you have lit the candle for the first time, replace the lid for a few moments. The candle will leave a black mark on the inside of the lid. This is where you should cut a chimney hole in the lid.

Clean out the Seeds & Strings

Use The Pumpkin Gutter to easily remove the seeds and strings without getting your hands messy.

or best results, thin the walls of the pumpkin until they are approximately 1" thick.

Leverage Power Tools

As long as you have your drill handy, a spade bit works well to create the eyes and nose. We like to use a 1.5" bit. You can add additional character by making minor modifications to the holes using a carving tool or small knife.

Help Your Pumpkin Last Longer

When not on display, cover the cut portions of the pumpkin with plastic wrap or smear with petroleum jelly. This will slow the drying and shriveling.

Store the pumpkin in the fridge to slow the growth of mold.

To revive a dried out pumpkin, soak it in water for a few hours.
