Leverage Power Tools
As long as you have your drill
handy, a spade bit works well to create the eyes and nose. We like
to use a 1.5" bit. You can add additional character by making minor
modifications to the holes using a carving tool or small knife. Use a Pattern
and Tools
For professional results, use
a carving pattern. These are available where ever carving supplies
are sold or on the internet at sites like
www.zombiepumpkins.com,
www.masterpiecepumpkins.com,
www.carvingpumpkins.com or
www.pumpkinglow.com.
There are specific tools that
make carving easier. Some tools poke holes in the pumpkin to
transfer the pattern. Other small saws allow you to cut intricate
patterns.
Help Your
Pumpkin Last Longer
When not on display, cover the
cut portions of the pumpkin with plastic wrap or smear with
petroleum jelly. This will slow the drying and shriveling.
Store the pumpkin in the
fridge to slow the growth of mold.
To revive a dried out pumpkin,
soak it in water for a few hours. |
